TGLO CMP-26: HF Radar
Texas (Gulf of Mexico Coast)
RATES has partnered with the University of Texas at El Paso and Lamar University in a Texas General Land Office (TGLO) Coastal Management Program-26 (CMP-26) -Project of Special Merit to put RATES HF-RADAR assets back into service for Texas Bays and Ports (Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake). Data from this project will be applied to support storm surge and contaminant transport modeling programs that are supported by TWDB, USACE, and TCEQ. A total of 5 stations will be distributed on Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake. When commissioned, data will be made publicly available via NOAA’s national data server. This project will expand the available HFR data, allowing for near real-time surface current data to exist beyond the current network coverage. Using the data this project will generate, agencies and universities can model water quality variables in both Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake, two areas that provide important ecosystem services.
