FEWS: The Future of the LRGV
Flood Early Warning System (FEWS) is a cyberphysical platfrm that combines real-time observations, mechanistics and machine learning forecasting algorithms, along with education and awareness to promote end-user empowerment and risk perception.
LRGV Regional FEWS: Planning, Deployment, Operation & Maintenance
Goal: Integrate Flood Warning Capabilities into the Existing REON-RGV Monitoring Network.
REON-RGV is a fully operational network, which can simultaneously be used for technology R&D.
The monitoring network is already in place; integrating
FEWS capability into this network is much less costly.
The design of the FEWS system will be done in coordination with regional stakeholders.
About Us
The Real-Time Hydrologic System stations are a fully extensible system that continuously monitor, at minimum, environmental data, water surface elevation and water quality data. As of 2026, RATES has installed over 70 stations in the Rio Grande Valley, New York, and Alabama.
