Biography

Ivan Santos, holds the position of Research Engineer at RATES Inc. Mr. Santos holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), one of most prestigious universities in Mexico where he specialized in construction and management of water infrastructure. Following his passion for water resources he achieved the grade of Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) where his research project, funded by the TCEQ 319 Grant Program, provided him with experience in project management, water quality data collection in situ, as well as development and maintenance of GIS data. At his position at RATES Inc., Mr. Santos is in charge of the development of hydrologic and urban stormwater systems for the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV), he is the Field Coordinator for Northern and Central Characterization project funded by TCEQ. in charge of the water quality data collection efforts funded by the He recently served as Field Coordinator for the Lower Laguna Madre (LLM) Fresh Water Flows project, funded by TWDB, that aimed to characterize water quality of the main waterways that drain into the LLM.

Project Experience

UTRGV, Water Quality Monitoring to Assess Pollutant Loadings in Brownsville Ship Channel – LRGV, TX. Graduate Research Assistant. He was in charge of the development of a study to address water quality and flow at the three main tributary ditches that drain into the Brownsville Ship Channel, a project funded by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) through the 319-characterization project (Lower Laguna Madre-Brownsville Ship Channel). During his time at UTRGV he was also in charge of other duties such as presenter in regional conferences, field supervisor, and teaching assistant. 

  

RATES, TWDB Freshwater Flows – LRGV, TX. Ivan joined RATES as engineer intern in September, 2021. During this time, he had been assisting the installation and maintenance of Real-Time Hydrologic System (RTHS) stations, he had also worked on the characterization of quantity and quality of hydrologic flows in the Lower Laguna Madre for the Freshwater Flows project from Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). Ivan will join in a full-time position with RATES after graduation.
